| Synopsis : | Set in a hospice, Good People is about the ups and downs between three people. Miguel is the new Medical Director trying to run a tight ship. Yati is a jaded nurse making the best of a ‘dead-end’ job. Radha is the terminally-ill patient who is addicted to marijuana to relieve her pain. As the three get to know each other, complications arise. If Radha gets caught, will she be given the death penalty, even though she has only a few months to live? If Miguel and Yati turn a blind eye to her consumption of drugs, how do they reconcile their complicit silence with professional ethics? Is it humane to allow a patient overcome with pain to seek temporary relief through forbidden means? Or is it morally correct to deprive her of such recourse? A play that deals with the issue of living, dying and the pain in between, this production marks 20 years of remarkable collaborations between The Necessary Stage's resident playwright Haresh Sharma and artistic director Alvin Tan. In line with The Necessary Stage's current focus on intercultural collaboration, Alvin and Haresh team up with three exceptional actors from around the region - Rody Vera (The Philippines), Sukania Venugopal (Malaysia) and Siti Khalijah (Singapore). With Lighting Design by Mac Chan (Malaysia), Sound Design by Madeleine Flynn (Australia) and Tim Humphrey (Australia), and Set Design by Vincent Lim (Singapore). |
