Synopsis : The only festival of its kind, the HSBC Classics Festival has been committed to supporting and bringing quality classical music to an ever-growing audience.

Following a three-year festival cycle of piano, wind and string instruments, the HSBC Classics Festival  2008 kicks off its second cycle with the return of the piano.

Look out for a varied programme of performances, lecture recitals, masterclasses, exhibitions and the inaugural HSBC Classics Piano Competition, featuring young and established, local and international artistes.

Winner of the HSBC Classics String Concerto Competition 2007, Elizabeth Tan performs with Ng Chong Lim, Lim Jae Sern, Fung Chern Hwei and Lau Yew Hann in this chamber concert.

First Prize winner of the 2004 Australian National Piano Award, Matthew Kam makes his Festival debut with this recital.

Malaysia's foremost jazz pianist Michael Veerapen performs with the equally legendary Lewis Pragasam and Christy Smith.

Acclaimed concert pianist, pedagogue and clinician Toh Chee-Hung  provides fascinating insights into the works of Frederic Chopin in this lecture recital.

Nine contestants vie for a place in the finals over two days of competition. Jury comprises Dennis Lee (Chairman), Toh Chee-Hung, Dr. John Sharpley & Matthew Kam.

Malaysia's finest young pianists show off their skills in a concerto performance. Winners to be announced at the Award Ceremony at the Festival Finale Concert on the same day, with the winner performing the winning concerto.

There will also be an exhibition of musical instruments and merchandise, and demonstrations during the festival week in KLPac's Main Lobby.
